Averaging


        This webquest is designed to help you with the skill of averaging. You will apply prior learned knowledge of addition and division to complete this webquest on batting averages and other activities. This webquest will require you to use a pencil,  paper, and a calculator.

The Process:

1. Averaging is complex. Are you unsure what an average is? Glossary can help you. Click on average and in your own words define average in your journal.

2. To average you must understand how to add  whole and decimal numbers. Let's refresh our memory by going to  Decimal.  Create three addition with decimal problems. Do all problems, check them using a calculator, and record them in your journal.

3. To average you must understand how to divide whole and decimal numbers. Let's refresh our memory by going to Division. Create three division with decimal problems. Do all problems, check them using a calculator, and record them in your journal.

4. Go to WebMath, and here you will create  9 players' batting averages ranging from .150 to .500. You should try to calculate the team's batting average and when you have completed it click on "do it" to check your answer.

5. Let's practice. Go to Sunny Hills and do problems 1-3.

 6. Visit Baseball to help your team compute baseball averages. Using the handout, "Baseball I Love the Game", key in the hits and at bats for each of your teammates and record their averages.

7.  Now you are an expert average finder. To ensure your spot in the Averager Hall of Fame complete the quiz Averaging.
