LEARNING BASIC FRACTIONS
Greetings Students! Meet Sharon Share.
She enjoys sharing with her friends, but she has made several friends now
and she wants to be able to share equally with them all. In this
WebQuest you will assist Sharon Share as she learns about fractions.
Now that you are one of her friends maybe she will allow you to share in
her goodies.
The Tasks:
At the end of this WebQuest you will be able to:

define fractions, numerators, and denominators,

use models to represent fractional parts of a whole,

apply fractions to problem situations,

identify fractional parts of a number line, and
-
visually recognize fractional parts of a whole.

The Resources:
1. Defining
the Terms for Fractions will give the definition of the terms fraction,
numerator, and denominator.
2. Educate
the Children will test your ability to recognize fractional parts of
a shape. This site also tests your understanding of the concept
"equal parts."
3. The Mars
Fraction Hunt is a fun game which requires you to find fractions of
words to solve the puzzle. This review of fractions also has a prize
at the end.
4. Basic
Fractions is a site which will explain fractions in great detail.
There are excellent examples of fractions.
5. Visual
Fractions will give you practice in identifying fractions with number
lines or circles. You will also practice identifying numbers which
represent the numerator and the denominator.

The Process:

Defining
the Terms for Fractions will give the definitions of the terms fraction,
numerator, and denominator. Go to this site. Select math from
the list of suggested topics. Click on Grade 4. When you get
into this site, write the definitions of the terms listed above.

Educate
the Children will test your ability to recognize fractional parts of
a shape. This site also tests your understanding of the concept "equal
parts." Go to this site and print a copy of the worksheet.
Complete the exercise by coloring the fractional parts as directed on the
sheet.

Fraction Hunt is a fun game which requires you to find fractions of
words to solve the puzzle. This review of fractions also has a prize
at the end. Number a sheet of paper from 1-28. Complete the
28 problems. Successful completion will result in a secret message.

and denominators in each example.

on the first line which is "Identifying fractions with lines." Read the
instructions and complete the practice exercise on identifying numerator
and denominator. Next, go back to the home page. Click on "identifying
fractions with circles." Complete the practice exercises. Finally,
play the game entitled "Find Grampy."

you have completed the questions, click on the box marked "check answers"
to find out what your score is.
