A Web Quest for 6th-8th Grade Instructional Resource (Reading)

Introduction:

You are a special agent from another country. Your mission is to pay particular attention to the order in which the events or activities will happen. As you go on this mission, you will need to read carefully and follow the directions that have been given. You will meet Theodore The Tugboat, Clifford, Elizabeth and many others on your quest. Good luck!

The Tasks:

After you complete this mission, you will be able to:
Read passages for understanding.
Answer questions about passages.
Identify the order of  the events.
Identify the main idea.
Become familiar with identifying new words.

The Process:

To accomplish The Tasks, read the following steps and follow the directions.There are some very cool websites to help you practice your reading skills.
1. You will learn who or what Theodore the Tugboat is.Thedore is a talking tug boat who will give you a option of selecting a story that you will like to read. In this story, you will go to the web site and read the story to yourself. You will left click the arrow, and it will tell you what to do next.

2. Now, you will read Emily Elizabeth Goes to School. Is a talking story that will give you a option of selecting which reading passage you will like to select.This story will talk to you when you select the reading passage. Left click on the story and read the  passage. You will then identify the key words that have been given in the story.

3. The Sun Made Them Happy will tell how the sun can make you happy as an individual.  You will need to use the mouse to scroll down to the next page to continue the reading. After you have identified what will make you happy, you will need to tell what happens first, second and third and so on in the reading.

4. In this site you will use your mouse to select the story, The Green Light. In this basic story, you will read simple words and select the word that is lighted to help you go on to the next page.

5. In Birds of A Feather Smash Together, After reading a passage, you will be presented with two questions about the story. Use your mouse to click on the correct answer. You will then go to the next page and continue the same process.

You can  now identify the main idea of a reading passage, arrange events in a sequential order, and read with understanding.

Teacher Advice:

This Web Quest is design for 6- 8 grade students with a disability in the area of reading with.It will help to identify the different areas of reading  passage.

The students will need to know what the main idea of a story, and the order of sequencing.

This lesson is designed to be taught over a two week period for six weeks.

If a student is working below grade level, he or she may need some assistance from a teacher assistant or peers.
