Feel the music, listen to the vibe! Sing from you soul - its All About Jazz Time! On this WebQuest, you will learn how to read, write, and feel what jazz music is all about. You will also discover some of jazz legends' contributions, as well as the instruments that make it sound so unique. So, sit back, put on you music ears, and enjoy the grooves of your jazz tunes.

Provided below is a list of exceptional sites I found that will be useful in guiding you through your WebQuest. You should be able to complete the tasks stated above in a timely and fun manner.

1.  This Jazz History site is designed to give learners the chance to enhance their knowledge of jazz music. It provides a timeline, as well as some significant contributions of jazz music.

2. On this site, you will focus on Writing Jazz Chords. It gives details of how to read and write music, particularly jazz.

3.  Take a Lesson in Jazz on this site. It offers a virtual saxophone lesson and gives you the opportunity to further develop your interests in learning jazz music.

4.  JazzChat with Upcoming Artists on this site. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions concerning the artist's work, as well as sign up to receive email bulletins about other Jazz at Lincoln Center chats, audio programs, or events.

5. Sounds of Jazz gives you an idea of the different types of instruments that are used to create the jazz sound. On this site, explore the combination of sounds the jazz artists used to create their own unique style.

The Process:

In order to complete the WebQuest in a timely and fun manner, it is important to follow the steps listed below. Each resource listed has a set of instructions to follow.

1.  This Jazz History site is designed to give learners the chance to enhance their knowledge of jazz music. It provides a timeline, as well as some significant contributions of jazz music. On this site, review The History of Jazz and select at least three time periods of jazz. Visit Jazz Biographies and provide a summary of at least two of the featured artists. Also, review Jazz Sound Clips and listen to at least three different sounds of some of the artists. Provide a summary of each site visited, including significant facts you learned.

2. On this site, you will focus on Writing Jazz Chords. It gives details of how to read and write music, particularly jazz. Begin with Lesson One and complete the three parts to the jazz writing. Print and turn in your lessons after completing all steps on the page.

3.  Take a Lesson in Jazz on this site. It offers a virtual saxophone lesson and gives you the opportunity to further develop your interests in learning jazz music. You need to register for the Free Lesson. You should receive an email of your registration. (There will be no fee for you to register!) Turn in the email printout of your registration. At your leisure, take the virtual jazz lesson and report the effectiveness of the online jazz learning.

4.  JazzChat with Upcoming Artists on this site. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions concerning the artist's work, as well as sign up to receive email bulletins about other Jazz at Lincoln Center chats, audio programs, or events. Submit a Question to the featured artist. Provide a printout of your question from the site.

5. Sounds of Jazz gives you an idea of the different types of instruments that are used to create the jazz sound. Explore the combination of sounds the jazz artists used to create their own unique style. Also browse the instrument section, and compare the different music tools used with the artists. Prepare a chart of the combinations of artists and instruments used.

6.  Take A Quiz on the information you have learned. If you have difficulty in finding all of the information, you can also go to MSN's Encarta and search under "Jazz."
 

Learning Advice:

To utilize your time and work information gather in  an orderly fashion, it would be advised to complete each assignment completely before advancing. It may be more beneficial to learn about the artists and contributions that you are less familiar. You are required to present the information in a three prong binder. There should be an individual sections for each process, including all printouts and summaries. There should also be a table of contents prepared, as well.

At its completion, you should have increased knowledge on the history, major contributors, and the different styles and instruments used to  create jazz's unique sound.
