Albert Bandura:
Observational Learning

This website page is designed to inform viewers about Albert Bandura's life and his observational learning theory.  It looks at the four stages of observational learning and the effect they have on personality development.  Bandura believes that it is better to learn by observing others and strongly supports modeling, which he believes could have as much of an impact on an individual as direct experience.  The effects on personality, that these theories possess, are addressed in this site.

1.    A BIOGRAPHY OF ALBERT BANDURA:  Albert Bandura is often considered the "father" of the cognitivist movement.  He believes that the environment and a person's behaviors cause one another.  This site gives a brief biography of Bandura's life and discusses his theories and the therapy he recommends.

2.    OBSERVATIONAL (SOCIAL) LEARNING:  Observational or social learning is based around a four step pattern.  This article discusses those four steps and demonstrates through a variety of experiments that the application of consequences is not necessary for learning to take place.

3.    SOCIAL COGNITIVE APPROACH TO PERSONALITY:  Bandura's social cognitive theory emphasizes the social origins of behavior in addition to cognitive thought processes that influence human behavior and functioning.  Here we learn about his basic concepts of observational learning, reciprocal determinism, self-efficacy, and ways in which self-efficacy is acquired.

4.    ALBERT BANDURA'S LIFE TO CAREER:  This site contains a biography of Albert Bandura's life, his theory, a time line, and a bibliography.  This sites gives a brief description of Bandura's life, the four steps of the modeling process, the three steps of self-regulation, and a time line of his accomplishments from his birth until present.

5.    BEHAVIORAL LEARNING:  This link is a PowerPoint Presentation on Behavioral Theory.  It discusses behavior modification, effects of reinforcement on children's attitudes and behavior, and the effects of media aggression on children.

6.    BANDURA'S ROLE IN PERSONALITY AND DEVELOPMENT:  The purpose of this web page is to present a brief look at Albert Bandura, his theories, and the effect they have on personality development.  Bandura believes that it is better to learn by observing others and strongly supports modeling, which he believes could have as much of an impact on an individual as direct experience.  The effects on personality, that these theories possess, are addressed in this site.
