Constructivism
and Vygotsky


This site is to give information on the constructivist view of learning through the use of other websites.  It also involves an indepth look at Vygotsky and what he has contributed to learning theories.  This site also compares different theories of learning to the constructivist view.


1. This site gives an overview of the different Learning Theories, including constructivism.  Burner's site gives his overview of constructivist theories of learning.  He includes an example and principles.
 

2. A discussion of Vygotsky's theories dealing mainly with the social theories of learning.  It also provides a video discussion of his theory, an example, and principles.
 

3. Classroom Compass  This article discusses not only the theory but how it applies in the classroom.  It provides resources and information on geometry activities, help for math and science teachers, and building an understanding for constructivism.
 

4. Math Forum: Vygotsky and the Internet  Presented here is a discussion of the ongoing debate about the relation between the ideas of Vygotsky and Piaget, emphasizing a cardinal difference between them; their views concerning the importance of culture, in particular, the role of mediation of action through artifacts, on the development of mind.
 

5. This site gives More Information About Constructivism.  It includes the definition of constructivism by answering the question what it is.  It also compares it to other theories and gives background information.  In addition, this site includes readings related learners and views about Vygotsky.
