Whole Class and Small Group
Discussion

This web page was designed to give teachers the opportunity to visit web sites that strictly deal with whole class and small group discussion.  These sites range from kindergarten to college level.  It was designed to provide teachers with a wide variety of options to choose from.

Whole Class Discussion:
   1.  Think-Pair-Share is a new discussion strategy being used in a whole class setting.  This is a
         great strategy to use when you don't want to take alot of time away from the material you
         are covering in your lesson.

    2.  Teachers do you ever need ideas on how to better implement whole class discussion in your
         classroom?  Visit this site to order a discussion kit that is designed to help you better
         implement it into your instruction.  This kit is not designed only for experienced staff, but also
         for newly qualified teachers.

Small Group Discussion:
    1.  Monitoring small groups can be easier when you have these tips to help you.  You will also
         learn how to use these tips.

    2.  Would you like to know more information on small group teaching?  This site can give you a
         list of resources that will tell you all you need to know from elementary to college age level.

    3.  There are always advantages and disadvantages to any strategy.  The University of Western
         Australia has put out a list of advantages and disadvantages of small group learning.

    4.  More resources can be found about small group teaching at this site by the University of
         Waterloo.  Waterloo also has a list of resources to be found.

    5.  Experiments are a great part of finding out if different strategies really work.  Find out if
         small group discussion is a good strategy to use in the classroom.  This is a small group
        interaction experiment that was done in a second grade mathematics classroom.  Quotes and
         comments from the paper written about the experiment are given at this site.

    6.  Do you ever have problems knowing when to use the correct strategy in the classroom and
         how to use it?  This site gives you information about small group discussions, when to use it,
         when it can be useful in the classroom, and how to use it.

Whole Class and Small Group Discussions:
   1.  Community Share is a school book club program that was designed to use whole group and
         small group discussions in them.

    2.  Effectively using strategies in the classroom is a big problem for some teachers.  Learn how
         to make whole class and small group discussions effective in your classroom.  Some
         effective traits are given that students may exhibit from working in groups.

    3.  Using discussions in activities is an excellent way to involve students in the instruction.  If you
         need ideas or activities to use to motivate your students to get involved in classroom
         discussions, this is the place to visit.

    4.  Deep Book Discussions can be done in several ways.  Whether it is whole class or small
         groups, you can find lots of activities to do with each one.  Questions are also provided that
         can help you evaluate the student's progress.

    5.  The Bell Jar is a five week unit in an eighth grade English class and Romeo and Juliet is a
         four week unit in a sixth-eighth grade English class.  In these classes, whole class discussions
         along with small group discussions were used in both of these units.  To get ideas on how to
