David Elkind, Ph.D.

This is an informational webpage which includes the lifetime accomplishments of Dr. David Elkind.  The importance of character education is emphasized as well as the importance of play during the adolescent years.  There is a powerpoint presentation for more information on Dr. Elkind and childhood development.  Three book titles authored by Dr. Elkind are also available.

David Elkind, Ph.D., is currently Professor of Child Study at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. His research has been in the areas of perceptual, cognitive and social development where he has built upon the research and theory of Jean Piaget.

Kids These Days:  Meet Dr. Elkind gives background information about Dr. Elkind.  It also lists several of his parenting tips.

Slow Down For Children at Play:  Dr. Elkind gives reasons for the importance of play during the childhood years.

Learning Arcade Program:  This is a recreational, computer-enhanced play program endorsed by Dr. Elkind.  He states that this program offers the time, space, and freedom to learn and practice social skills.  He also states that this promotes cooperative learning and empowering play. This site's link entitled "The Learning Arcade" is good for kids.  It includes conversations with Dr. Elkind on the subject of family values, as well as the importance of play.
